SWITCH Mobility, an electric bus manufacturer under India's Hinduja Group, has finalised the delivery of 100 electric buses to the Government of Mauritius, completing what the company describes as the largest electric bus export from India to date.

The final consignment of 90 buses was handed over in a formal ceremony where India's External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, transferred custody to Mauritius Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam. Senior officials from both governments attended the handover, underscoring the diplomatic significance of the transaction.

The buses are being provided as a donation from the Government of India to Mauritius under a government-to-government arrangement, with procurement handled through an open tender conducted by Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL). Day-to-day operations will be managed by the National Transport Corporation (NTC), Mauritius' state-owned public transport operator.

Vehicle Specifications

The deployed model, the SWITCH EiV12, seats up to 45 passengers and is equipped with floor-mounted lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, which the manufacturer says provide a lower centre of gravity for improved stability. The buses use a rear dual-gun charging interface designed to reduce depot turnaround times.

Each vehicle integrates the company's proprietary telematics platform, SWITCH iON, enabling real-time vehicle health monitoring and fleet management. The manufacturer states the buses meet international standards in safety, performance, and durability.

The initiative is part of a broader effort by both governments to reduce transport-related emissions and modernise public transit infrastructure in Mauritius. For SWITCH Mobility, the export represents a step in the company's stated strategy to expand into international markets.

Ganesh Mani, CEO of SWITCH Mobility, said the delivery marks an important milestone in strengthening Mauritius' transition to electric mobility, adding that the company remains committed to supporting the island nation in developing a more sustainable transport ecosystem.

SWITCH Mobility reports it has deployed over 2,400 electric buses globally, accumulating more than 150 million kilometres of combined operation since the company's inception.
