Suzuki Motorcycle Opens First Dealership in Leh, Completing India Presence

Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt. Ltd. (SMIPL) has opened its first dealership in Leh, establishing a retail presence in the Union Territory of Ladakh. The outlet, named Mentokling Suzuki and located in Choglamsar, Leh, was inaugurated on May 4, 2026, by Deepak Mutreja, Vice-President of Sales and Marketing at SMIPL, alongside officials from the company and the dealership partner, in the presence of customers.

With this addition, SMIPL's network now spans all states and union territories in India, bringing its total outlet count to 1,242. The milestone marks the completion of a nationwide retail footprint that the company has been building since it began India operations two decades ago.

The Leh dealership functions as a 3S (Sales, Service, and Spare Parts) facility, consolidating the company's sales and after-sales offering under a single roof. The outlet showcases SMIPL's full domestic range of two-wheelers, including scooters such as the Access, Avenis, and the recently launched Burgman Street. Also on display is the e-ACCESS, the brand's first electric scooter, alongside motorcycles including the Gixxer, Gixxer SF, Gixxer 250, Gixxer SF 250, and the V-Strom SX. Customers can take test rides across models, including the Access with ABS variants that were introduced recently.

Beyond the showroom, the dealership houses a service workshop staffed by trained technicians and stocked with genuine spare parts and diagnostic tools. SMIPL indicated that this facility will serve not just local customers but also V-Strom riders travelling through Ladakh — a route popular among long-distance motorcycle tourers — by providing authorised service backup in the region. The outlet also carries a range of genuine accessories, apparel, and branded merchandise, positioning it as a comprehensive destination for Suzuki customers.

Mutreja, speaking at the inauguration, said that Ladakh occupies a distinct place in India's motorcycling landscape. He noted that the region's terrain and riding conditions place a premium on performance and reliability, and that the new outlet would give customers in Leh and surrounding areas dependable access to the company's products and after-sales support. He credited the dealer partner, Mentokling Suzuki, for enabling the expansion into the region.

The opening in Leh carries geographic and commercial significance for the company. Ladakh, which sits at elevations exceeding 3,000 metres above sea level and shares borders with China and Pakistan, was carved out as a separate Union Territory in October 2019 following the reorganisation of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. The region has historically been underserved by organised retail infrastructure, with limited access to branded automotive products and authorised after-sales service.

At the same time, Ladakh draws a large volume of motorcycle tourists each year. Routes such as the Manali-Leh and Srinagar-Leh highways, which cross some of the world's highest motorable passes including Khardung La and Baralacha La, are considered among the most demanding riding routes in the country. This combination of a local customer base and a transient rider population gives the region commercial relevance for two-wheeler manufacturers looking to extend their network into India's more remote territories.

For SMIPL, entry into Ladakh also rounds out a retail map that now includes every part of India. The company has positioned this as a milestone in an expansion strategy that has taken its network from a handful of outlets at inception to over 1,200 across the country.

SMIPL was established in India in February 2006, with its manufacturing plant based in Kherki Daula, Gurugram, Haryana. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan, and produces a range of products for the Indian market, including 125cc scooters, electric scooters, and premium motorcycles above 150cc. India is one of the largest two-wheeler markets in the world, and manufacturers have increasingly looked to expand beyond metropolitan and tier-one markets to consolidate their national presence.
