Sundram Fasteners Enters Submersible Pump Segment with V4 Range

Sundram Fasteners Limited (SFL) has entered the submersible pump segment with a new range of V4 4-inch submersible pumps aimed at agricultural applications. The company is initially treating the move as a pilot initiative, using its existing experience in water pumps and engineering capabilities to develop products for rural and agricultural customers.

The pilot rollout will cover four districts in Tamil Nadu — Tirunelveli, Madurai, Ramanathapuram and Kanyakumari. Tirunelveli will serve as the first launch market, with the pumps being introduced there in August 2026.

SFL said the initiative is intended to help it better understand the requirements of agricultural customers and assess the potential for expanding its presence in the segment. The company has not indicated a broader national rollout or detailed its sales targets for the new product range at this stage.

“Our foray into the submersible pump segment extends our existing experience in the water-pump business and offers an opportunity to apply our engineering capabilities to address the needs of rural India,” said SV Mahesh, Executive Director, Sundram Fasteners Limited.

“Through this pilot, we aim to understand the requirements of agricultural customers and develop solutions by building the right product that combines reliability, engineering quality and a support ecosystem,” he added.

Sundram Fasteners' Automotive Business and Manufacturing Capabilities

The move marks a diversification of SFL’s engineering capabilities beyond its established automotive-focused product portfolio. The Chennai-headquartered company has more than six decades of experience in manufacturing components and systems for the automotive industry, with operations and manufacturing facilities across three countries.

Its existing product portfolio includes high-tensile fasteners, powder metal components, cold-extruded parts, hot-forged components, radiator caps, automotive pumps, gear shifters, gears and couplings, tappets, iron powder, powertrain components and sub-assemblies.

SFL has also developed capabilities in forging, metal forming, close-tolerance machining, heat treatment, surface finishing and assembly. The company is seeking to leverage these manufacturing and engineering competencies in developing products for agricultural applications through the submersible pump initiative.

What's Next for the Submersible Pump Pilot

The initial focus on four districts in Tamil Nadu provides SFL with a limited regional market in which to evaluate the product, customer requirements and support requirements before determining the next phase of the business.

For the company, the pilot therefore represents both a product launch and a market-validation exercise. Its performance in the initial markets, along with feedback from agricultural customers and the effectiveness of its support network, is likely to inform any decision on scaling up the submersible pump business.
