Steelbird Helmets has launched the SXE motorcycle helmet, marking the first time an Indian manufacturer has incorporated TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer) energy absorber technology in a consumer helmet. The company announced the product launch today with an introductory price of ₹3,599.
The SXE helmet features a multi-layered protection system that includes an ABS shell reinforced with fiber composites, a black EPS liner, and the TPE shock-absorbing layer. According to the manufacturer, this configuration reduces rotational impact forces by approximately 20 percent compared to conventional helmet designs.
The helmet has received dual certification under India's BIS IS 4151:2015 standard and the United States Department of Transportation's FMVSS 218 safety standard. Most Steelbird helmets meeting DOT certification requirements use fiberglass shell reinforcement to comply with the testing protocols.
Steelbird designed the SXE with an aerodynamic shell structure and a ventilation system featuring multiple intake and exhaust channels. The helmet includes a dual visor setup with both clear and smoke visors, plus an internal sun shield. The visor system supports Pinlock anti-fog inserts.
The helmet's interior uses breathable fabric padding with what the company describes as a thermoformed padding system designed to maintain shape under repeated compression. Reflective fabric inserts, including a strip around the neck area, are integrated into the design for visibility during night riding.
The SXE is available in painted and decal versions across 13 color combinations. Size options include 560mm (Small), 580mm (Medium), 600mm (Large), and 620mm (Extra Large). The helmet features a micrometric buckle closure system.
The product launch represents Steelbird's entry into what the company calls its "Advanced Safety Series." The SXE incorporates technology typically found in higher-priced helmet segments while maintaining accessibility through its sub-₹4,000 pricing.
India's motorcycle helmet market has seen increased focus on safety technology as riding populations grow in urban areas. The introduction of TPE energy absorber technology at this price point could influence other manufacturers to adopt similar protective systems in their product lines.
The SXE helmet is now available through Steelbird's distribution network across India.
