Spiro Appoints Former Indofast Energy CEO Anant Badjatya As Group CEO

Spiro has appointed former Indofast Energy chief executive officer Anant Badjatya as its Group CEO, strengthening its leadership team as the African electric mobility company prepares for its next phase of expansion.

Badjatya joins Spiro after leading Indofast Energy, the IndianOil-SUN Mobility joint venture, where he oversaw the development of a battery-swapping network comprising more than 1,800 stations serving nearly 90,000 vehicles daily. He brings over two decades of experience across the electric mobility, energy and industrial sectors, having worked in India, the Middle East and Africa.

The leadership change comes shortly after Spiro secured a US$215 million financing round, which the company described as one of the largest investments made in Africa’s electric mobility sector. In his new role, Badjatya will oversee operations spanning battery swapping, leasing, logistics, energy and vehicle manufacturing as the company scales its presence across the continent.

As part of its growth plans, Spiro also intends to expand its technology operations in India. The company’s Pune facility, which focuses on automotive innovation, currently employs more than 100 people and is expected to grow further in areas such as EV powertrain development and battery management systems. It's Bengaluru technology hub, with a workforce of over 50 employees, will continue developing IoT-enabled cloud platforms while supporting research and development localisation initiatives in Kenya and Nigeria.

Spiro currently operates electric two-wheeler mobility services across seven African markets. According to the company, it has deployed more than 100,000 electric motorcycles, established over 2,500 battery-swapping stations and completed more than 30 million battery swaps to date.
