Spark Minda Gets ECMS Nod for Greenfield TFT Display Unit
Spark Minda subsidiary to localize display module assembly for vehicle cockpits, reducing import dependence across automotive electronics.
Spark Minda Group has announced that it has received government approval to manufacture display module sub-assemblies under the government's Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), through its subsidiary Minda Instruments Limited.
The clearance enables the auto-component maker to establish a greenfield facility for Thin-Film Transistor (TFT) display module assembly as part of a targeted backward integration strategy. Minda Instruments, which supplies instrument clusters and automotive electronic systems to original equipment manufacturers, will assemble display units in-house rather than importing finished modules. The plant will also supply external automotive clients across the broader mobility sector.
The approval was granted by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology as part of a 31-proposal tranche cleared on August 17.
"A display is the point where a driver meets the vehicle. Bringing its manufacture to India is a natural continuation of the work we have built over the past decade," said Aakash Minda, Executive Director of Minda Corporation Ltd. "Import substitution is one part of this story, but the larger purpose is building the depth and precision India needs to design and manufacture the electronics that will define mobility going forward."
