Priya Kapur, Non-Executive Director at Sona Comstar, said the company is integrating artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics and robotics into its manufacturing operations and next-generation mobility technologies, as global automotive players scale up AI deployment across value chains.
Speaking at the India-AI Impact Summit 2026 during a panel discussion on ‘India Building AI Solutions for the World’, Kapur said AI has moved from pilot projects to large-scale deployment across design, manufacturing, supply chains, predictive maintenance, quality assurance and sustainability monitoring in the automotive sector.
She said companies leading this transition are focusing on deploying AI reliably across geographies and regulatory environments, with emphasis on data integrity, cybersecurity, safety and integration with physical systems. As AI becomes central to operations, governance must shift to the board level to ensure alignment with long-term strategy, risk oversight and workforce transition, she added.
Detailing Sona Comstar’s initiatives, Kapur said the company has deployed AI-enabled computer vision systems for automated inspection and predictive analytics for process optimisation. It has also introduced advanced robotics and autonomous material-handling systems to improve precision and productivity across facilities.
Through its global technology platforms, including radar and sensing technologies, the company is developing AI-driven mobility solutions for advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving. It is also exploring applications of precision drivetrain and motion-control technologies in autonomous mobile robots and robotics platforms.
Kapur said Indian AI startups have an opportunity to integrate with multinational automotive ecosystems, provided they build globally compliant solutions and collaborate early with industry players.
She said India can position itself as a hub for scalable AI solutions through collaboration between startups, industry, academia, financial institutions and policymakers.
