The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) conducted its third Green Plate EV Rally at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, drawing participation from 181 electric vehicles representing 18 original equipment manufacturers across two-wheelers, three-wheelers, cars, buses, and trucks.
The event, organized in partnership with the Ministry of Heavy Industries, Government of India, operated under the theme "Boosting Customer Confidence in Automotive Electrification" as part of SIAM's विद्युतीकरण (Electrification) initiative.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta served as chief guest for the flag-off ceremony, accompanied by Environment, Forest & Wildlife Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa. Gupta announced Delhi's target to achieve 100% electric vehicle transportation by the end of 2026, stating the government is actively working to reduce air pollution and infrastructure gaps.
"Delhi has always been a focal point of opportunities, attracting people from across India. I invite EV manufacturers to partner with us in this mission of building a cleaner and greener Delhi," Gupta said during the ceremony. She urged citizens to embrace electric mobility with the goal of making every third vehicle on Delhi roads electric.
Minister Sirsa emphasized the connection between sustainability and national progress, referencing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's net-zero vision for the country.
SIAM Executive Director Prashant K Banerjee highlighted the current relevance of electric vehicles, stating that EVs represent the foundation of sustainable India rather than merely a future trend. He credited government policies and infrastructure development for encouraging both manufacturers and consumers toward electric vehicle adoption.
The rally included a panel discussion featuring senior officials from various government departments and organizations, including representatives from the Ministry of Heavy Industries, Delhi Police Traffic Division, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, NITI Aayog, and SIAM leadership.
The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers represents major vehicle and engine manufacturers in India and operates as a registered charitable organization focused on enhancing the automobile industry's contribution to economic growth while promoting environmental protection and vehicle safety standards.
