Samvardhana Motherson International (SAMIL), the flagship company of Samvardhana Motherson Group (SMG), on Thursday confirmed that three plants were commissioned during Q1FY27, bringing the group's expansion pipeline to 13 facilities at various stages of completion, with 10 of those expected to become operational during the current fiscal year. Full-year capital expenditure guidance was maintained at Rs 6,000 crore, plus or minus 10%, with Q1 capex of Rs 1,600 crore tracking in line, the company noted during a post-results conference call with analysts.

The third consumer electronics greenfield facility, a Rs 6,500 crore investment targeting 40 million units of annual capacity, remains on schedule for commissioning in Q3FY27. The division's JV partner, BIEL, holds a 10% equity stake with an option to increase its holding to 49%, a structure that gives the business both a technology anchor and a pathway to deeper partnership as volumes scale.

The commercial vehicle outlook for North America was described as remaining favourable through FY27, while planned European OEM model launches were flagged as expected to support light vehicle industry growth in the coming quarters, a signal directed at industry observers concerned about the 3.3% year-on-year decline in European LV production in Q1FY27.

The most forward-looking moment in the call came when management disclosed that Motherson is actively studying opportunities across robotics, industrial automation, artificial intelligence and semiconductors. The group is, management said, already supporting humanoid robot production, currently a niche market.
