RSB Group Releases First Sustainability Report, Outlines 2030 Targets

RSB Group, a prominent automotive components manufacturer with over five decades of operations, has released its maiden Sustainability Report outlining concrete environmental performance metrics and establishing firm targets for the remainder of the decade.

The report documents significant operational improvements across key environmental indicators. Energy consumption totaled 264,850 gigajoules, representing a 5% reduction over three years, while energy intensity decreased to 1.50 GJ per tonne—a 16% improvement since FY2022-23.

Greenhouse gas emissions showed notable progress, with combined Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions reaching 48,137 tCO₂e. Scope 1 emissions declined by approximately 25% compared to FY2022-23, while overall GHG emissions intensity improved to 0.27 tCO₂e per tonne, marking a 17% reduction.

R.K. Behera, Chairman of RSB Group, emphasized the operational foundation of these achievements. "Our sustainability journey is rooted in measurable actions on the factory floor," Behera stated, noting that the company's 4P framework—Purpose, People, Process, and Planet—guides decision-making across engineering, manufacturing, and delivery operations.

The report establishes a five-year decarbonization roadmap centered on renewable energy adoption, energy efficiency enhancements, and low-carbon technology integration. By 2030, the company aims to source 50% of its energy from renewable sources and achieve 60% water neutrality, alongside a 45% reduction in emissions.

Water management initiatives yielded positive results, with water intensity improving to 0.61 kiloliters per tonne, representing a 4% year-on-year improvement in FY2024-25. Waste management programs diverted approximately 97% of total waste from landfills, demonstrating advanced circularity practices.

S.K. Behera, Vice Chairman, underscored that sustainability considerations extend throughout the company's value chain. "Every process decision is evaluated through the lens of efficiency, responsibility, and long-term impact," he noted.

Beyond environmental metrics, the report addresses employee safety protocols, workforce development programs, and community engagement activities delivered through RSB Foundation. These social initiatives span education, healthcare, livelihood support, and environmental programs across multiple regions.

The Sustainability Report aligns with SEBI Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reporting (BRSR) standards and Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines, reflecting structured governance and data-driven performance monitoring.

Founded in 1973, RSB Group manufactures automotive components across facilities in India, the United States, and Mexico. The company's product range includes propeller shafts, gearboxes, and electric vehicle components. RSB received the Deming Prize in 2013 from the Union of Japanese Scientists & Engineers and earned TPM Excellence Awards for four Jamshedpur plants in 2019 from the Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance.
