Royal Enfield Says ICE will Remain Central as Flying Flea Begins EV Journey

Though Royal Enfield identifies dependence on internal combustion engines as a business risk, the midsize motorcycle maker said it will continue to invest in its ICE portfolio even as it prepares the commercial rollout of its first Flying Flea electric motorcycle. In its annual report, the automaker outlined a dual ICE-EV strategy under its RE-BALANCE framework.

“We are building this electric future with real commitment. At the same time, petrol motorcycles will remain central to Royal Enfield - we will continue to keep the petrol flag flying for as long as we possibly can, investing fully in new models, platforms and technology,” Eicher Motors Executive Chairman Siddhartha Lal said.

The RE-BALANCE strategy is built around four pillars that seek to balance investments in internal combustion and electric vehicles, strengthen customer experiences beyond motorcycles, pursue profitable growth and expand sustainability initiatives. Under the products pillar, Royal Enfield said it will continue delivering motorcycles across its ICE range while progressively embracing electric vehicles through sustained innovation.

The strategy comes even as the company has flagged dependence on ICE platforms and changing consumer preferences as a key business risk. In its enterprise risk assessment, Royal Enfield said it is responding by investing in brand relevance, engaging younger customers, modernising the customer journey and accelerating innovation while preserving its identity.

The company's electric vehicle plans are centred on Flying Flea, its City+ electric mobility brand. The annual report said the coming financial year will mark the commercial rollout of the first electric motorcycle under the Flying Flea brand, describing it as a transformative step in the company's mobility strategy. The FF.C6, the first model under the brand, was showcased across several cities before its launch in India alongside the opening of the first Flying Flea store in Bengaluru.

Even as it prepares to enter the electric motorcycle market, Royal Enfield said Flying Flea will be developed steadily with a long-term approach focused on design, technology and ownership experience. The company said the brand reflects its vision for urban electric mobility while complementing, rather than replacing, its existing motorcycle portfolio.

Beyond products, the RE-BALANCE framework places emphasis on building a broader customer ecosystem. The company said it wants to redefine customer journeys by creating immersive experiences around motorcycling, supported by apparel, riding gear, accessories and community initiatives. During the year, it expanded its lifestyle portfolio with new apparel collections, strengthened its accessories range and continued to grow its community-led events.

International expansion also remains a key part of the strategy. Royal Enfield said it continued to strengthen its position across global markets during the year, with Latin America posting strong growth led by Brazil, now its largest and fastest-growing international market. The company said it remains the number two player in the mid-size motorcycle segment in Europe and several Asian markets, while retaining the top position across the SAARC region. It also expanded its overseas manufacturing footprint by adding assembly facilities in Bangladesh and Thailand.

Royal Enfield said Flying Flea will continue its phased rollout while the company deepens its manufacturing, retail and community presence in high-potential markets. It said the RE-BALANCE framework will guide its next phase of growth by balancing its established ICE business with a gradual expansion into electric mobility. ENDS
