Routematic has introduced an app-based employee shuttle service, branded COCO Rides, in Pune’s Hinjawadi IT hub, aiming to address increasing commuting challenges in the region. The service has been launched in partnership with the Hinjawadi Industries Association (HIA), with support from the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and the Regional Transport Office (RTO).

The rollout is expected to cater to over 1.25 lakh employees across more than 80 companies associated with HIA. The initial deployment includes a fleet of over 80 buses operating across 70-plus routes and more than 500 boarding points, connecting key residential areas in Pune to office locations in Hinjawadi. The system is designed to support a daily ridership capacity of up to 20,000 commuters.

COCO Rides is positioned as a fully digital platform, allowing users to book seats through a mobile application using fixed routes, schedules and pricing. The service is restricted to employees of HIA member companies, who can register using corporate credentials and select preferred pickup points.

The initiative comes amid rising congestion levels in Pune. According to the TomTom Traffic Index 2025 cited in the release, the city ranks as the second-most congested in India and fifth globally, with congestion levels at 71.1 percent. Average commute times stand at 34 minutes per 10 km, contributing to an estimated 158 hours of travel delays annually.

Routematic stated that the service is supported by a central command system for real-time monitoring, aimed at improving operational consistency compared to informal or ad-hoc commuting arrangements such as carpooling or unstructured shuttle services. COCO Rides forms part of its broader strategy to deploy structured, high-capacity transport solutions in urban business districts.
