Renault Duster Hybrid Sold Out for 2026; Metro Demand at 36%, Says Francisco Hidalgo

Strong early traction for hybrid variants and a 7-year warranty push underline Renault’s renewed strategy in India’s mid-size SUV space

Renault’s comeback bet with the new Duster has got off to a strong start, with the strong hybrid variant already sold out for the current year, prompting the company to look at ramping up production.

Speaking at the unveil, Francisco Hidalgo, VP, Renault India, said the response to the hybrid powertrain has exceeded expectations, particularly in urban markets.

“We have seen an overwhelming response to the hybrid powertrain. As of now, we are sold out for this year and are actively working on increasing capacity,” Hidalgo said.

The demand is being led by cities, with around 36% of hybrid pre-bookings coming from metro markets, signalling a shift in buyer preference in the mid-size SUV segment, which has traditionally been dominated by petrol powertrains.

The trend points to a growing acceptance of hybrids among urban consumers looking for a balance between performance, fuel efficiency, and lower emissions, without the constraints of charging infrastructure.

Alongside its powertrain strategy, Renault is also attempting to differentiate on ownership experience. The company has introduced what it calls an industry-first warranty programme, offering coverage of up to 7 years or 1,50,000 km.

“The relationship with customers must be built on trust. This programme ensures that we stay with them throughout their ownership journey,” Hidalgo said.

The warranty is structured to be renewed annually based on service compliance and is transferable, which could support stronger resale values in the used car market.

The twin focus on hybrid technology and long-term ownership assurance reflects Renault’s attempt to reposition the Duster beyond a feature-led proposition, at a time when competition in the segment remains intense.

With hybrid variants already fully booked for the year, Renault’s ability to scale capacity quickly will be critical in sustaining momentum and converting early interest into long-term market share gains in India.
