PURE, an energy storage and e-mobility company, launched its 5 MWh battery storage system called PuREPower Grid in Delhi on Wednesday. The containerized product includes integrated solar capabilities and power conversion systems designed to enhance grid stability and support renewable energy integration.

The company reports receiving expressions of interest from more than 10 renewable energy EPC players and large industrial firms for the newly released product. According to PURE, the system features high-density batteries, advanced power electronics, and cloud-based monitoring with AI capabilities.

"PuREPower Grid will contribute to grid stability and the seamless integration of renewables," said Dr. Nishanth Dongari at the launch event. The company also emphasized the product's potential role in supporting electric vehicle fast-charging infrastructure without requiring expensive transformer or distribution upgrades.

India's battery energy storage market is expected to reach $36 billion by 2030, driven by the country's renewable energy targets of 500 GW capacity and projected need for over 200 GWh of battery storage by the end of the decade. These developments align with India's broader energy transition goals and efforts to modernize its power infrastructure.

The product incorporates a multi-level cooling system using phase-change materials at the cell level and liquid cooling at pack and rack levels, which the company states will extend battery lifespan and improve efficiency. PURE positions the new grid storage solution as complementary to its existing home and commercial storage products.

PURE was incubated at the Innovation and Technology Incubation Center at the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad. The company has developed over 100 intellectual property assets and maintains a network of 80 dealerships across India, serving approximately 80,000 customers.

The launch comes at a time when India is working to address grid reliability challenges while rapidly expanding renewable energy capacity. Battery storage systems have become increasingly important as they help manage the variability of renewable sources like solar and wind, allowing for more effective integration into the existing power grid.
