Propel Industries launches indigenous EV dump trucks at EXCON 2023
The trucks are currently undergoing homologation to demonstrate their roadworthiness.
Propel Industries, a prominent player in the crushing and screening equipment sector, unveiled two variations of electric vehicle (EV) dump trucks at EXCON 2023. The launch event was graced by Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Road Transport and Highways of India. The two variations which were showcased, 470 MEV and 470 HEV, with gross vehicle weights of 45 and 60 respectively, are designed and manufactured in India, marking Propel Industries as the first indigenous EV Dump Truck manufacturer in the country.

Battery Flexibility:
- Battery packs ranging from 171 to 450 kWh can be chosen, offering flexibility, affordability, and application specificity.
- Custom-configured batteries based on mine distance and gradient ensure driving time of 6 to 12 hours on a single charge.
- 0-100% State of Charge (SOC) charging in 1 hour.
Fuel Cost Savings:
- Propel EV Trucks deliver significant savings in fuel costs, with running costs 1/3rd to 1/5th less compared to fossil fuel trucks.
- Re-generative braking/charging in top-down mines with sufficient gradient may eliminate the need for charging.
Safety and Reliability:
- Lithium batteries with a chilled cooling system for optimal temperature even in harsh environments.
- Automatic fire extinguisher and Leakage Current detection (for both AC & DC) ensure safety.
- 5-year or 4000 cycles battery warranty.
Comfort and Safety Features:
- Payload detection, Driver fatigue warning, Automatic headlamp dipper, and crash detection for safety.
- HVAC cool cabin, air-suspended cabin, Automatic transmission, and onboard diagnosis for comfort.
- Chassis frame fully reinforced for extreme road and payload conditions.
Performance and Roadworthiness:
- ABS with Hill start assist feature for comfortable and safe uphill driving.
- Heavy-duty hub reduction axles specially designed for EV applications ensuring high torque and payload.
The company aims to expand its range of electric trucks to on-road applications by the second quarter of FY2024. The trucks are currently undergoing homologation to demonstrate their roadworthiness.
