Praj Industries has announced a collaboration with Paraguay’s Enersur S.A. to develop a fully integrated biorefinery project in Paraguay. The project will produce ethanol along with co-products such as distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS), corn oil, biogas, bio-bitumen, and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

The agreement was signed in the presence of Santiago Peña Palacios, President of Paraguay, during his official visit to India from June 2 to 4, 2025. The visit focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in renewable energy and biotechnology.

This project follows an earlier contract awarded to Praj by Enersur for the design, supply, and commissioning of a 600 m³/day anhydrous ethanol plant in Canindeyú, Paraguay. The plant, which will use corn as feedstock, is scheduled for completion by October 2026. Praj’s scope includes technology licensing, design and engineering, core equipment supply, and on-site support.

The biorefinery is expected to contribute to rural development and generate both direct and indirect employment. Enersur’s President, Omar Bustos, noted Praj’s experience and technology as key reasons for selecting them as a partner.

Dr. Pramod Chaudhari, Founder Chairman of Praj Industries, said the initiative supports efforts to expand clean energy solutions and circular bioeconomy models in South America.

During the visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with President Peña to discuss expanding collaboration in agriculture, technology, and renewable energy. The partnership reflects India’s growing engagement with Latin America in sustainable development sectors.

Praj Industries has a presence in over 100 countries and has completed multiple projects across the Americas. Its services span bioenergy solutions, water systems, breweries, and specialized equipment, with a strong focus on sustainability and innovation.
