Piaggio Group Marks Vespa 80th Anniversary in Rome

The Piaggio Group, in coordination with the Municipality of Rome, has announced the operational schedule for Vespa Roma 2026, an international industrial and brand gathering structured to mark the 80th anniversary of the motor scooter platform. Scheduled from 25 June to 28 June 2026, the four-day event will use the public spaces of the Foro Italico and the Stadio dei Marmi as its primary logistics hub, designated as the Vespa Village. The municipal sponsorship and regional infrastructure alignment are positioned to accommodate technical clubs and vehicle owners traveling from an estimated 60 countries across multiple continents.

Matteo Colaninno, Executive Chairman of the Piaggio Group, stated that the choice of the Italian capital reflects the vehicle's historical convergence with post-war domestic industrial development. First manufactured in 1946, the specialized two-wheeler platform evolved alongside shifting European transport requirements, expanding from a regional mobility solution during the mid-century economic recovery into a global manufacturing export. Colaninno noted that the brand is currently approaching a cumulative production milestone of 20 million scooters distributed globally.

The event agenda includes a mix of industrial history showcases, regulatory sporting competitions, and formal institutional recognitions. The opening day ceremonies on 25 June will feature the official introduction of a commemorative coin minted by the State Printing Office and Mint for the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance, alongside an administrative first-day cancellation ceremony managed by Poste Italiane. Additionally, a dedicated photographic and design exhibition curated by Giacomo Bretzel will trace the structural and stylistic evolution of the scooter line over its eight decades of commercial existence.
