Maruti Suzuki’s journey towards its “next million sales milestone” appears significantly faster than previously anticipated, Managing Director and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi said, as the carmaker prepares to introduce seven SUVs over the next five years.
Takeuchi said the momentum generated in FY26 had placed the country’s largest carmaker at an inflection point, with multiple growth engines moving simultaneously.
“The journey towards next million sales milestone appears significantly faster than previously anticipated,” Takeuchi said in his message to shareholders in the company’s annual report for FY26.
Maruti Suzuki sold a record 2.42 million vehicles in FY26, including 447,774 units in overseas markets. Annual production exceeded two million units for the second consecutive year, while the company also recorded its highest-ever domestic sales.
The carmaker plans to introduce seven SUVs over the next five years to to strengthen its presence in the segment.
Takeuchi said Maruti Suzuki’s SUV portfolio was strengthened during FY2026 with the launch of the Victoris and e Vitara. The e Vitara also marked the company’s entry into the battery electric vehicle market.
The planned SUV rollout comes as Maruti Suzuki expands manufacturing capacity to support its medium-term growth. Chairman RC Bhargava said installed capacity would reach 2.9 million units by the end of FY27 and 3.65 million units by the end of FY31.
Takeuchi said customer expectations were evolving beyond mobility, with buyers increasingly seeking safety, comfort, convenience and connectivity. Maruti Suzuki is expanding its product portfolio and manufacturing capacity as it moves towards its next million sales milestone.
