Omega Seiki Mobility (OSM) announced on Wednesday that it has begun design and development work on an electric vehicle specifically engineered for persons with disabilities. The company said the initiative reflects its commitment to building an inclusive and accessible mobility ecosystem.

According to OSM, the vehicle will be developed using a human-centric approach, with the specific mobility requirements of persons with disabilities placed at the centre of the design process. The company said development will focus on accessibility, safety, comfort, convenience and ease of use, with the stated aim of enabling greater independence in everyday mobility.

Dr. Uday Narang, Founder and Chairman of Omega Seiki Mobility, said the company wants India's shift to electric mobility to be inclusive and to reach people with diverse mobility needs, and that the initiative aims to apply engineering and innovation toward a practical solution built around the needs of persons with disabilities.

OSM said the initiative has been dedicated to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his birthday, and that the company intends to draw on its EV engineering and manufacturing experience to explore a domestically-made mobility solution. The company said it will engage with users and relevant experts and stakeholders as the development process continues, to inform the vehicle's design with practical user needs.

No timeline, specifications, or launch date for the vehicle were disclosed.
