Ola Electric Enters Battery Storage Market with Shakti Launch
India's largest EV maker unveils residential battery systems targeting Rs 1 lakh crore energy storage opportunity
Ola Electric announced its entry into India's battery energy storage systems market on October 16, 2025, with the launch of Ola Shakti, a residential power backup solution. The move marks the company's expansion beyond electric vehicles into the energy storage sector.
The Bengaluru-based company introduced four variants of the product, priced between Rs 29,999 and Rs 1,59,999 for the first 10,000 units. The battery systems are available in capacities ranging from 1.5 kWh to 9.1 kWh, designed for homes, farms, and small businesses.
Ola Shakti utilizes the company's 4680 Bharat Cell technology, which is currently used in its electric vehicles. The product is manufactured at Ola's Gigafactory facility and represents what the company claims is India's first fully domestically designed and manufactured residential battery energy storage system.
According to the company's statement, India's battery energy storage market is currently valued at Rs 1 lakh crore and is projected to reach Rs 3 lakh crore by 2030. Ola Electric expects its annual battery consumption for the energy storage segment to scale up to 5 GWh within the next few years, potentially exceeding its automotive battery requirements.
Bhavish Aggarwal, Chairman and Managing Director of Ola Electric, stated that the product addresses what he described as an energy storage opportunity rather than an energy shortage in India. The company is leveraging its existing infrastructure, including its production facilities and distribution network of over 4,000 stores, to scale the new product line without additional capital expenditure.
The battery systems feature several technical specifications, including up to 98% efficiency, IP67 weatherproof rating, and instant changeover time.
The product supports various household and commercial appliances and includes smart features such as time-based charging schedules, remote diagnostics, and over-the-air software updates.
Reservations for Ola Shakti opened on October 16, 2025, with a booking amount of Rs 999. The company has announced that deliveries will commence during Makar Sankranti in January 2026. The products will be available through Ola's website and physical store network across India.
