New VW T-Roc Revealed Ahead of Munich Motor Show Debut

Volkswagen has taken the wraps off the second-generation T-Roc, one of its most popular global models, ahead of its public debut at the Munich Motor Show. Arriving eight years after the original, the all-new T-Roc grows in size, adopts sharper styling, and features a completely overhauled interior. Most notably, it introduces VW Group’s first-ever full-hybrid powertrain alongside updated mild-hybrid options.

On the outside, the new T-Roc SUV leans on modern proportions with EV-inspired  styling with a full-width LED bar, and coupe-like touches at the back. The SUV’s bodyshell has been reshaped for better aerodynamics, now achieving a drag coefficient of 0.29 cd. The new T-Roc will be sold in variants like base, Life, Style, and R-Line, with new colors, bigger wheels, and Black Style package options.

Inside, VW has moved the T-Roc closer to the Tiguan in terms of quality and technology, using higher-grade materials, recycled plastics, ambient lighting, and a free-standing infotainment display up to 12.9 inches. It also gets improved ADAS features, including lane-change assist, exit warning, and an advanced Park Assist Pro with memory function. Practicality is up too, with a larger cabin and 465 liters of boot space.

The new T-Roc gets a slew of powertrain options including two mild-hybrid versions of the 1.5L eTSI engine (114 hp and 148 hp), with a 48V system providing extra boost. The bigger news is VW’s first full-hybrid setup, combining the 1.5L TSI evo2 with an electric module for outputs of 134 hp or 168 hp. A 2.0L TSI, including mild-hybrid and 4Motion AWD options, will join the lineup later.

The T-Roc isn’t really new to India, The first-gen SUV was also sold here from 2021 in limited numbers as a full import. It remains to be seen whether VW decides to bring the new T-Roc to India in future as a more premium and stylish alternative to the practical Taigun SUV.
