Naxion Energy Introduces Sodium-Ion Storage Systems in India
The Coimbatore-based manufacturer has launched energy storage platforms designed as alternatives to lead-acid batteries and diesel generators, targeting residential, commercial, and industrial applications across India.
Naxion Energy, formerly known as Sodion Energy, has announced the commercial launch of sodium-ion-based energy storage systems manufactured at its Coimbatore facility. The company positions itself as India's first dedicated sodium-ion battery manufacturer.
The all-in-one energy platforms integrate battery, inverter, and solar MPPT components. Available in 3.5kW, 5kW, and 10kW configurations with expandable capacity, the systems are designed to serve residential, commercial, industrial, and defense sectors as replacements for lead-acid batteries and diesel generators.
The launch event was attended by G. Satheesh Reddy, former chairman of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), who noted the technology's potential in addressing material constraints associated with conventional battery systems.
According to Abishek Reddy, CEO of Naxion Energy India, the company aims to establish an indigenous supply chain for battery technology. The systems are engineered to operate in temperatures ranging from -30°C to +70°C and require no maintenance such as water top-ups or periodic servicing.
Sodium-ion chemistry offers non-flammable and non-toxic properties, which the company states eliminates thermal runaway risks. The technology enables higher charge and discharge rates compared to lead-acid systems, allowing the batteries to power high-inductive loads including air conditioners, compressors, and industrial equipment.
Naxion Energy plans to invest ₹200 crore by the end of 2026 to expand manufacturing capabilities and increase its workforce by 50%. The company is establishing a second manufacturing plant in Telangana, scheduled to become operational next year.
Current clients include Sagar Cements, Tamil Nadu Forest Department, TAFE dealerships, and various MSME industrial clusters. The company distributes products through a dealer network across major Indian cities.
Founded in 2024 and headquartered in Hyderabad, Naxion Energy has raised ₹25 crore in funding. Beyond energy storage, the company manufactures sodium-ion battery packs for mobility applications in heavy machinery, marine, and defense sectors.
