Namma Yatri, a mobility app based in Bengaluru, officially launched its operations in Mangalore marking a step in the app's expansion across Karnataka, following success in cities like Bengaluru, Mysore, Tumkur, and Kalaburagi.
Backed by the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), the app's driver-centric model aims to redefine urban mobility in the state. The launch event was inaugurated by the Speaker of Karnataka Vidhana Sabha, UT Khader, along with officials from the transport department.
The launch in Mangalore follows a month-long trial that received strong support from the local driver community. In November alone, nearly 500 trips were completed, and 300 drivers joined the platform, signaling positive momentum for the initiative. Namma Yatri has also announced plans to expand further into Manipal and Udupi, reinforcing its commitment to improving regional mobility across Karnataka.
UT Khader praised the initiative during the launch event and emphasized the importance of dependable, affordable, and accessible transportation for Karnataka’s development. He said Namma Yatri’s approach empowers drivers while providing convenience and affordability for commuters, making daily transportation smoother.
Namma Yatri's operations in Mangalore have been bolstered by strong grassroots support, the company said. Driver enrollments have grown primarily through community endorsements and word-of-mouth. Encouraged by the success in Mangalore, Namma Yatri is urging other driver communities in Karnataka to adopt the service, with Kalaburagi being the next focus of expansion.
Naveen Kumar, a community ambassador for Namma Yatri, noted that the app simplifies the booking process for both drivers and passengers, ensuring doorstep pick-ups and transparent fare structures. He shared that drivers can earn more, while passengers benefit from lower costs and improved services. This mutual benefit has established trust between drivers and customers in Mangalore.
Earlier this year, in Tumkur and Gulbarga, Namma Yatri drivers completed over 2.8 lakh trips, collectively earning approximately Rs 2 crore. This milestone underscores Namma Yatri's mission to leverage technology to empower drivers and provide affordable transport for commuters.
Namma Yatri currently has 2.3 lakh drivers and over 50 lakh customers across Karnataka. The app facilitates an average of 1.6 lakh trips daily, reflecting its growing popularity.
