Musashi India, the wholly owned subsidiary of Japan's Musashi Seimitsu Industries, announced the establishment of the Musashi Technology Excellence Centre (MTEC) in Bengaluru on July 29, marking 23 years since the company began operations in India.
The facility, located at Atria University Campus, represents a ₹100 million investment in the first year and focuses on research and development of energy storage systems and electric mobility solutions.
The centre will conduct testing and validation of technologies developed by Musashi Global in partnership with international collaborators and vendors. MTEC aims to accelerate rapid prototyping and localization of technologies for the Indian market, with plans to expand infrastructure and workforce in phases.
Naoya Nishimura, CEO of Musashi India and Africa Region, said the company has grown from serving a single customer in 2002 to partnering with leading automotive original equipment manufacturers across India. He emphasized the facility's role in building local capabilities while maintaining the company's customer-focused approach.
The R&D centre will target advanced energy storage solutions tailored for Indian market requirements. The facility is designed to attract engineering talent, including electrochemists and data scientists, as part of Musashi's expanded research presence in the country. The company plans to integrate rapid prototyping with local manufacturing capabilities.
Masaru Maeda, Chief E-Mobility Officer at Musashi Seimitsu Industries, described the launch as a significant step in the company's global electric mobility strategy. He noted India's importance as a market for next-generation energy solutions and the centre's role in supporting both domestic and international needs.
The development aligns with India's Net Zero 2030 goals and leverages the country's supply chain and manufacturing infrastructure. Musashi India will draw on its automotive manufacturing experience, combined with Musashi Energy Solutions' hybrid supercapacitor production capabilities and strategic direction from the parent company in Japan.

The company produces drivetrain systems including differential assemblies, transmission gears, and suspension components for conventional, electric, and autonomous vehicles.
Musashi India functions as the country's largest manufacturer of transmission systems for two-wheelers and four-wheelers, working with automotive manufacturers across multiple segments.
