Montra Electric's Rhino Truck Crosses 1.2 Crore Kilometres in Two Years

Montra Electric's flagship heavy-duty electric truck, the Rhino 5538EV, has crossed 1.2 crore kilometres across Indian roads within two years of launch, the company announced on Monday. The fleet of 350 trucks has reduced over 3.79 million tons of CO₂ emissions while serving steel, cement, and port logistics sectors.

The Rhino 5538EV is India's first 55-ton GCW electric truck and has achieved an uptime of over 98% in high-demand industrial environments. The vehicle has been adopted by leading cement and steel companies, with several placing repeat orders over the past two years.

"This milestone is a powerful validation of India's transition to clean mobility. With the Rhino 5538EV, we are proving that electric heavy transport isn't a distant future, it's already a reality on Indian roads. It reflects our commitment to innovation with purpose and to accelerating sustainable, cost-efficient logistics," said Mr. Jalaj Gupta, Managing Director of Montra Electric.

The CO₂ emission reduction achieved by the fleet is equivalent to the carbon absorption capacity of approximately 181 million trees. The trucks have delivered cost benefits through fuel and maintenance savings while helping companies meet decarbonization targets.

The Rhino 5538EV is powered by a 282 kWh LFP battery and a PMSM motor that delivers 280 kW (380 hp) of power and 2000 Nm of torque. The truck supports fast charging up to 240 kW, enabling a 20-100% charge in 60 minutes, with a certified range of 169 km under standard test conditions.

The vehicle features Automated Manual Transmission for clutchless driving, low noise and vibration levels, and heavy-duty components including Meritor axles and Wabco air brakes. The company provides 24×7 on-site service support to ensure high uptime.

Montra Electric's product range includes the 6×4 tractor trailer, with plans to introduce a 4×2 tractor trailer and 6×4 tipper configuration. The company operates under four business verticals covering heavy commercial vehicles, mid and small commercial vehicles, three-wheelers, and electric tractors.

Montra Electric is part of the Murugappa Group, a 125-year-old conglomerate with businesses worth INR 778 billion across agriculture, engineering, and financial services.
