Montra Electric has introduced a 15-minute rapid-charging option for its SUPER AUTO FX electric passenger three-wheeler, in collaboration with Exponent Energy. The offering will initially be available in Bengaluru, Chennai and Delhi NCR, where customers can access compatible charging hubs.

The SUPER AUTO FX has a claimed on-road range of more than 150km. The rapid-charging option is intended to reduce the time drivers spend charging their vehicles, allowing them to return to passenger operations sooner.

Fast charging remains relatively uncommon in the L5M electric passenger three-wheeler segment. The new offering extends Montra Electric and Exponent Energy’s existing collaboration in the commercial electric vehicle market to passenger mobility.

Exponent Energy’s Charging Network

SUPER AUTO FX customers will be able to access rapid charging through Exponent Energy’s network of more than 200 chargers across the three launch markets. The companies have not specified the planned timeline for expanding availability to other locations.

The announcement follows the introduction of ONE Pass earlier in October by Montra Electric, Exponent Energy and Exponent ONE. The pay-per-use Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) offering is designed to align energy costs with vehicle usage for Montra Electric’s three-wheelers.

Arun Vinayak, founder and CEO of Exponent Energy, said the partnership builds on the companies’ work in electric cargo three-wheelers and extends their collaboration to passenger vehicles. Exponent Energy’s battery technology and charging network are part of the offering, with the company citing a battery warranty of 2.25 lakh km.

Montra Electric SUPER AUTO FX Specifications

Alongside the 15-minute rapid-charging option, the SUPER AUTO FX has a claimed on-road range of more than 150km, 60Nm of torque and 32% gradability. Other features include hill-hold assist, push-button starting, an in-cabin light and a 12V mobile-charging socket.

The vehicle comes with a stated warranty of five years or 2.25 lakh km, as specified by the company. The release does not provide details on the conditions applicable to the warranty or the charging option.

Deependra Sharma, CEO of e-3W at Montra Electric (TI Clean Mobility), said charging time had been a concern for drivers because time spent charging can reduce the hours available for passenger operations. He described the 15-minute charging option as a response to that issue.

Exponent Energy, founded in 2020 and headquartered in Bengaluru, develops rapid-charging systems for commercial electric vehicles. Its technology combines the battery pack, pump and connector to support charging from 0% to 100% in 15 minutes, according to the company.
