MG Windsor Electric Vehicle Approaches 30,000 Sales Mark in India
Electric crossover utility vehicle achieves 27,000 sales in eight months, with nearly half of purchases coming from non-metro markets across the country.
JSW MG Motor India announced that the MG Windsor electric vehicle has surpassed 27,000 sales within eight months of its launch, positioning it as the country's top-selling electric vehicle. The company reported that the Windsor maintains its market leadership position in the electric vehicle segment.
The manufacturer recently introduced the Windsor EV PRO variant, which features an enhanced battery capacity and additional technology and safety features. This new version recorded 8,000 bookings within 24 hours of its May 2025 launch.
Sales data indicates that demand extends beyond major metropolitan areas, with non-metro markets accounting for 48% of total Windsor sales. This distribution pattern suggests broader market acceptance of electric vehicles across different urban tiers in India.
The MG Windsor has received recognition from industry organizations, earning more than 30 awards including the Green Car Award 2025 from iCOTY (Indian Car of the Year). The vehicle is marketed as India's first intelligent crossover utility vehicle.
The Windsor operates on a Battery-as-a-Service pricing model, starting at INR 9.99 lakh plus INR 3.9 per kilometer. The vehicle delivers 100 kW of power, equivalent to 136 horsepower, and generates 200Nm of torque. Interior features include seats that recline to 135 degrees and a 15.6-inch touchscreen display.
JSW MG Motor India was established in 2023 as a joint venture between SAIC Motor, a Fortune 500 company with operations in over 100 countries, and JSW Group, a conglomerate with interests across business-to-business and consumer sectors in India. The partnership focuses on developing automotive technology and sustainable transportation solutions.
The Morris Garages brand traces its origins to the United Kingdom in 1924, initially known for sports cars and roadsters. The brand's current manufacturing facility in Halol, Gujarat, has an annual production capacity exceeding 100,000 vehicles and employs 6,000 people directly and indirectly.
MG Motor India has introduced several vehicles in the Indian market, including the Hector SUV, ZS EV electric SUV, Gloster premium SUV, Astor SUV with AI assistant technology, and the Comet compact car. The Windsor represents the company's latest entry in the electric vehicle segment.
