MG Majestor Sets Guinness World Record for Heaviest Train Pulled by an SUV
JSW MG Motor India's pre-launch D+ SUV towed a 406.4-tonne train over 300 feet on an operational railway track in Jammu and Kashmir.
JSW MG Motor India's upcoming MG Majestor SUV earned a Guinness World Records title on April 10, 2026, after pulling a 406.4-tonne train over 300 feet on a secured operational railway section between Kakapora and Awantipora stations in Jammu and Kashmir — the first time any SUV has achieved this feat, surpassing the record's qualifying thresholds of 400 tonnes and 100 feet.
The vehicle used was an unmodified standard production unit, with no engine, drivetrain or traction alterations. Powered by a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine producing 215.5 PS and 478.5 Nm of torque, the Majestor pulled the train — comprising a WAG-9HC locomotive, passenger coaches and a guard coach — under continuous monitoring by independent automotive and motorsport experts. They confirmed the train moved solely under the SUV's power, with no external assistance. Train weight, track conditions and distance were documented under Guinness World Records verification protocols.
"This achievement is a powerful demonstration of what the MG MAJESTOR is engineered to deliver. It reflects our focus on building vehicles that combine strength, precision and control, even in the most demanding conditions. With the MAJESTOR, we are setting new benchmarks for capability while staying committed to delivering meaningful innovation and confidence to our customers," said Anurag Mehrotra, Managing Director, JSW MG Motor India.
The Majestor is positioned as India's first D+ SUV with Level 2 ADAS. Its specs include an 8-speed automatic transmission, Triple Differential Locks (front, rear and centre), an Advanced 4WD system with 10 off-road modes, Crawl Control, 219 mm ground clearance and 810 mm water-wading capability.
The vehicle is yet to be launched. Pre-reservations are open at INR 41,000. The first 3,000 customers will receive a 5-year unlimited kilometre warranty, free 5-year roadside assistance for unlimited kilometres, and five labour-free services, along with priority deliveries and invite-only experiential drives.
