Mercury EV-Tech Launches 3.2 GW Battery Manufacturing Facility in Vadodara

Mercury EV-Tech expands battery production with a 3.2 GW facility in Vadodara, supporting EVs and grid-scale storage.

Mercury EV-Tech Limited has commissioned a 3.2 GW lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility at its Vadodara campus through its wholly owned subsidiary PowerMetz Energy Pvt. Ltd.

The facility is designed to produce multiple battery chemistries including LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate), NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt), Sodium-Ion Cells, and Supercapacitor Modules. These batteries will support applications ranging from EV charging infrastructure to grid-scale storage for renewable energy.

Mercury EV-Tech has ordered a fully robotic production line from a Chinese equipment provider, with machinery expected to arrive by the end of April. Pilot production is scheduled to begin in mid-May 2025.

"This upcoming facility is poised to be one of the most advanced lithium-ion battery lines in the country, equipped with cutting-edge automation and a rare integrated laboratory designed to meet stringent global safety and performance standards. It reflects our unwavering commitment to technological excellence and scalable innovation," said Darshal Shah from Mercury EV-Tech Limited.

The company has positioned the development as a response to India's evolving policy landscape, which has seen over 30 GW of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) auctioned in the past six months. A recent regulatory mandate requires minimum two-hour BESS integration with all government renewable projects.

Shah added, "We are not just building capacity; we are building a platform for long-term energy resilience. We have plans to initiate work on an additional 3.2 GW battery plant in South India, with the Vadodara facility's performance and order pipeline providing the foundation for this expansion."

Mercury EV-Tech is evaluating locations for this second facility, with the final site to be selected based on operational momentum and order strength in coming quarters.

The company describes itself as an electric vehicle solutions provider with end-to-end capabilities across the EV manufacturing spectrum. Their facilities include an 18-acre R&D centre near Vadodara and another R&D centre in Hyderabad focused on high-range vehicles.
