Mercedes-Benz India has committed an additional investment of Rs 200 crore toward manufacturing operations, new product launches, and shopfloor digitization, bringing its cumulative investment in India to Rs 3,200 crore. The capital deployment coincides with the rollout of the locally produced electric GLC SUV at its manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune.
The Chakan plant assembles the electric SUV on the same flexible line as the brand's internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, allowing the facility to produce multiple vehicle platforms across different powertrain technologies. As part of its manufacturing upgrades, the carmaker has deployed camera-based computer vision AI systems and industrial robotics across critical processes including welding, riveting, and painting.
To address charging accessibility, Mercedes-Benz India is also introducing an optional public charging package. Under the scheme, customers purchasing new battery electric vehicles can opt out of the standard complimentary home AC wall-box charger to receive 2,500 kWh of public charging credits through the MB.CHARGE network, valid for 24 months from activation.
The newly launched Electric GLC 400 4MATIC is priced at Rs 78.50 lakh (ex-showroom) and is built on the company's MB.EA-M platform featuring an 800-volt architecture. The vehicle rollout was attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar, and Mercedes-Benz Group AG Board Chairman Ola Källenius. According to Mercedes-Benz, the car received 1,000 bookings in record time, with an order book already up till March 2027.
