Maruti Suzuki to launch Jimny SUV on June 7

Maruti Suzuki will announce prices for the Jimny SUV in India on June 7, our sources have confirmed. One of the most-awaited new launches this year, the Jimny will join the growing segment of lifestyle off-roaders alongside the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha.

Bookings for the Jimny have been ongoing since its debut at Auto Expo earlier this year, and Maruti says it has amassed nearly 30,000 bookings for the SUV so far.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny variants, features, waiting period
The Jimny will be available in two trims – Zeta and Alpha. Our dealer sources tell us that the top-spec Alpha trim has been seeing a higher demand, and will be prioritised for production. Bluish Black, Kinetic Yellow and Pearl Arctic White have been the most popular colour choices on the Jimny so far.

The Alpha trim gets features like auto LED headlamps, a 9-inch touchscreen, SmartPlay Pro+ infotainment system, Cruise control and Arkamys sound system. It also gets safety features like six airbags, ESP with hill-hold assist, hill-descent control, rear-view camera and ABS with EBD.

Sources also tell us that the waiting period for the manual variants will stretch up to six months upon launch, while the automatic variants have a waiting period of up to eight months.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny powertrain, fuel efficiency
Powering the Jimny is a sole 1.5-litre, naturally aspirated K15B petrol engine that puts out 105hp and 134.2Nm of torque. This unit is available with a choice of a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque convertor automatic transmission. Maruti claims a fuel efficiency of 16.94kpl for the manual variant, while the automatic variant returns a mileage of 16.39kpl.

The Jimny, which is underpinned by a ladder-frame chassis, also comes equipped with Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4WD system that consists of a manual transfer case and a low-range gearbox with ‘2WD-high’, ‘4WD-high’ and ‘4WD-low’ modes.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny expected price, rivals
With prices expected to range between Rs 10 lakh-12 lakh (ex-showroom), the Jimny will have no direct rivals at launch. However, for its positioning and off-road ability, it will compete against the likes of Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha
