Maruti Suzuki India Limited has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Transport Department of Tamil Nadu to establish 10 Automated Driving Test Tracks (ADTTs) across the state as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts.
The automated tracks will be set up in Marthandam, Tirunelveli, Coimbatore (Central), Madurai (North), Tuticorin, Krishnagiri, Dindigul, Tiruvannamalai, Sivagangai, and Trichy (West). These locations were selected based on recommendations from the Transport Department, considering the high volume of driving licenses issued and connectivity to nearby cities.
The MoA was signed by R Gajalakshmi, IAS, Transport and Road Safety Commissioner, and Tarun Agarwal, Senior Vice President, CSR, Maruti Suzuki. The ceremony was attended by S.S. Sivasankar, Minister for Transport and Electricity, and Dheeraj Kumar, IAS, Home Secretary.
The ADTTs will utilize video analytics, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), and Harnessing Automobiles for Safety (HAMS) technologies to conduct driving license tests for Light Motor Vehicles and Two-Wheelers. The technology-enabled system aims to eliminate human intervention and ensure transparency while adhering to Central Motor Vehicle Rules.
Minister Sivasankar praised the initiative, stating that the collaboration represents a step toward improving road safety in Tamil Nadu and reinforcing disciplined driving behavior across the state.
Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs at Maruti Suzuki, emphasized that automated testing ensures comprehensive and rigorous assessment of drivers' skills and knowledge, allowing only qualified applicants to receive licenses.
This expansion brings Maruti Suzuki's total commitment to 76 ADTTs nationwide. The company has already established 45 ADTTs across India, including locations in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Haryana, and Jammu & Kashmir. In August 2025, the automaker signed an agreement with Rajasthan to set up 21 additional tracks.
Beyond automated testing facilities, Maruti Suzuki has established 8 Institutes of Driving and Traffic Research and 23 Road Safety Knowledge Centres in collaboration with various state governments. The company also implements Integrated Traffic Safety Management Systems and provides First Responder training to commercial drivers and stakeholders.
