Maruti Suzuki India will expand its Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS) in Gurugram, adding 1,000 cameras integrated with radar systems across approximately 70 junctions and nine road stretches covering 65km.
The second phase will take the company's total deployment to 1,400 cameras across 93 junctions and 13 key road stretches. Maruti Suzuki has allocated approximately ₹75 crore under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme for the project, covering both phases.
The company is implementing the initiative in partnership with the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and Gurugram Police.
The system is designed to detect traffic violations, including red-light jumping, speeding, riding without helmets, triple riding and wrong-side driving. It also uses automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) to identify vehicles associated with detected violations.
According to GMDA, connecting the CCTV network with its Integrated Command and Control Centre is expected to improve real-time traffic surveillance, coordination between enforcement agencies and response to traffic violations.
Maruti Suzuki said the system forms part of its wider road-safety initiatives. The company has previously deployed a Traffic Safety Management System in Delhi and is also working on plans to expand ITMS to other states.
The Gurugram expansion builds on the first phase, which involved installing 400 cameras and radar systems at 23 junctions across four road stretches. The second phase will extend the network to additional junctions and roads across the city.
