Maruti Suzuki Fronx FFV Concept Showcased at Japan Mobility Show
Maruti Fronx Flex fuel will launch in India next year; will be based on the Fronx FFV concept.
Maruti Suzuki has revealed the Fronx FFV Concept, a flex-fuel version of its made-in-India compact crossover, at the ongoing Japan Mobility Show 2025. This marks the first public unveiling of the model, following its digital preview by Suzuki a few days prior. The concept provides a clear look at the brand’s next-generation ethanol-compatible powertrain technology, which is expected to enter production in the coming years. Maruti Fronx Flex fuel will launch in India next year, Autocar India can confirm.
Fronx FFV Concept: Design highlights
At first glance, the Fronx FFV Concept looks almost identical to the standard Fronx currently on sale in India, but it gets a few visual differentiators that highlight its alternative-fuel credentials. The concept features distinct yellow decals and body graphics running across the bonnet, doors and sides, proudly identifying its flex-fuel capability.
Other than these graphics, the styling remains unchanged. The FFV retains the split headlamp setup, chrome-accented bumpers with faux skid plates, thick plastic body cladding, and the sloping coupe-like roofline that gives the Fronx its crossover identity. The rising beltline, prominent wheel arches, and black 17-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels round off the design.
Fronx FFV Concept gets E85 compatible powertrain
Suzuki has not disclosed technical specifications for the Fronx FFV yet. However, the brand’s 1.2-litre and 1.5-litre K-series petrol engines are already flex-fuel ready, capable of running on a mix of petrol and ethanol of up to 85 percent (E85). The version of the Fronx currently sold in Japan uses a 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine, and a similar configuration could be powering this concept as well. The FFV thus serves as a technology demonstrator for Suzuki’s future lineup of ethanol-compatible engines.
Maruti Suzuki’s flex-fuel roadmap
Maruti Suzuki has been actively developing flex-fuel vehicles (FFVs) as part of its broader low-emissions strategy. The company has already showcased the Wagon R Flex Fuel at the 2023 Auto Expo and the 2024 Bharat Mobility Global Expo, both of which highlighted its work on ethanol-powered technology.
The carmaker has confirmed that its first production-ready flex-fuel vehicle for the Indian market will debut by March 2026. While the Wagon R Flex Fuel is expected to lead this rollout, the Fronx FFV could also be a key contender for this milestone launch, given its export potential and global platform.
