Maruti Suzuki India has crossed the milestone of exporting 1 lakh units of the Jimny 5-door, Fronx and e Vitara to Japan, highlighting the growing role of India as a manufacturing base for Suzuki's global markets.
The company said cumulative exports of the three Made-in-India models to Japan have surpassed 1 lakh units. Japan was Maruti Suzuki's second-largest export market by volume in FY2025-26 and has retained the position during April-August of FY2026-27.
Exports of the Fronx to Japan began in August 2024, followed by the Jimny 5-door in December 2024. The e Vitara, Maruti Suzuki's first battery electric vehicle (BEV), was added to the export portfolio in September 2025. The Jimny 5-door and e Vitara are manufactured exclusively in India.
The company said the growing acceptance of its Made-in-India models has also contributed to Suzuki Motor Corporation becoming Japan's largest vehicle importer in FY2025-26. Maruti Suzuki-manufactured vehicles accounted for nearly 100% of Suzuki's vehicle imports into Japan during the financial year.
“The milestone of over 1 lakh exports of Jimny 5-door, Fronx, and e Vitara to Japan is a powerful endorsement of India's manufacturing excellence,” said Hisashi Takeuchi, managing director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India. He added that the achievement reflects the evolution of the India-Japan automotive partnership and the acceptance of Indian-built vehicles among Japanese customers.
Maruti Suzuki has identified exports as a key area of focus and currently supplies vehicles to nearly 120 countries through Suzuki's global distribution network. The company has been India's largest passenger vehicle exporter from FY2021-22 to FY2025-26.
Maruti Suzuki exported more than 1.8 lakh vehicles during April-August FY2026-27 and accounts for more than 50% of India's passenger vehicle exports, according to the company. The latest milestone in Japan further expands the export footprint of vehicles manufactured in India and includes the company's first BEV to be supplied to the Japanese market.
