Maruti Suzuki India Limited’s All-New Dzire has become the first compact sedan in India to receive a 5-star safety rating under the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP). The certificate was formally presented by Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport and Highways, during an event in the capital. In the same round of testing, Maruti Suzuki’s New Age Baleno received a 4-star rating.
The company also announced that by the end of 2025, all its passenger vehicle models will feature six airbags as standard. Currently, ten models—including Alto K10, Celerio, WagonR, Eeco, Swift, Dzire, Brezza, Grand Vitara, Jimny, and Invicto—already come with this feature across all variants. Additionally, Maruti Suzuki confirmed that all 18 of its models are now equipped with Electronic Stability Program+ (ESP®) as standard, which the company says represents the widest portfolio in the country ahead of any regulatory mandate.
Speaking at the event, Nitin Gadkari appreciated the progress in domestic vehicle safety standards and stated that Bharat NCAP has introduced globally comparable testing procedures. He acknowledged Maruti Suzuki’s efforts in expanding safety features to entry-level and premium segments alike and encouraged other automakers to adopt similar measures. Gadkari also urged all road users to follow traffic regulations, wear seat belts, and treat road safety as a shared responsibility.
Maruti Suzuki’s Managing Director & CEO, Hisashi Takeuchi, welcomed the recognition and highlighted the government's role in promoting safer vehicles. He stated that Bharat NCAP helps customers make more informed decisions and shared that all models in the company's lineup would have six airbags as standard within the year. He also pointed out that all models currently offer ESP® as standard.
The All-New Dzire and New Age Baleno are based on Suzuki’s 5th-generation HEARTECT platform and include a range of safety features. These include six airbags (front, side, and curtain), ESP®, Hill Hold Assist, and ABS with EBD. Both vehicles are equipped with a 360-degree HD camera, reverse parking camera and sensors, ISOFIX child seat mountings, and seatbelt reminder systems with alert buzzers and lamps for all passengers. They also offer 3-point seat belts for every occupant, high-speed warning alerts, and automatic door locking based on speed. The Dzire includes a day/night manually adjustable IRVM and tyre pressure monitoring system, while the Baleno comes with an auto-dimming IRVM.
