Maruti Suzuki India has achieved 1 million cumulative vehicle dispatches through the in-plant railway sidings at its Hansalpur and Manesar manufacturing facilities. Of this total, around 790,000 vehicles were dispatched through the Gujarat siding, while approximately 210,000 were dispatched through the Manesar facility.

The milestone was reached three years and five months after operations began at the Gujarat siding in March 2023 and the Manesar siding in June 2025. The company said the two facilities accounted for 70% of its total rail-based vehicle dispatches in FY2026-27. Its rail-based dispatches have crossed 300,000 vehicles in the current financial year up to August 31, 2026.

Maruti Suzuki Targets 35% Rail-Based Dispatches By FY2031

Maruti Suzuki said it has cumulatively dispatched more than 3.3 million vehicles by rail since FY2014-15. Of this figure, 1 million vehicles have moved through the in-plant sidings at Gujarat and Manesar, while the remaining dispatches have used loading terminals located outside its manufacturing facilities.

The company's share of rail-based vehicle dispatches increased from 5% in FY2014-15 to 26.5% in FY2025-26. It has set a mid-term target of raising this share to 35% by FY2030-31. Maruti Suzuki said further investment in rail infrastructure, including an in-plant siding at its Kharkhoda facility, will support this target.

The Gujarat and Manesar sidings were developed under the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, according to the company. Maruti Suzuki said shifting vehicle transportation from road to rail through the dedicated facilities has reduced truck usage, fuel consumption and road congestion, while avoiding greenhouse gas emissions.

An in-plant railway siding is a dedicated rail terminal within a manufacturing facility, allowing vehicles to be loaded directly onto trains after production rather than being transported by truck to an external railway station.

According to the timeline infographic, the company's rail-logistics milestones also include the start of operations at the Manesar siding in June 2025, the first dispatch of Maruti Suzuki vehicles by rail to the North-East in October 2025, and the registration of the Gujarat siding as a carbon-credit project in February 2026.
