Suzuki will showcase the Fronx FFV*2 Concept — a flex-fuel version of the made-in-India crossover — at the upcoming Japan Mobility Show. The concept, based on the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, offers a glimpse of the brand’s future ethanol-compatible powertrain technology that’s set to enter production in the coming years.
Ahead of its global debut, Suzuki has released a teaser image of the Fronx FFV*2 Concept, revealing unique graphics and decals while retaining the familiar design of the standard model.
Fronx FFV*2 Concept: Design highlights
Visually, the Fronx FFV*2 Concept looks nearly identical to the standard car but gets a few distinct touches to set it apart. It sports yellow stickers and body graphics across the bonnet, doors and sides, indicating its flex-fuel credentials.
The overall styling — including the split headlamps, chrome-lined bumpers with faux skid plates, thick body cladding, rising waistline, sloping roofline, and black 17-inch multi-spoke alloys — remains unchanged from the petrol-powered Fronx.
Fronx FFV*2 Concept: Powertrain details
Suzuki has yet to reveal technical specifications for the Fronx FFV*2. However, the company’s 1.2-litre and 1.5-litre K-series petrol engines are both known to be flex-fuel compatible, capable of running on a blend of petrol and ethanol (up to 85 percent). The version currently sold in Japan is powered by a 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine, and a similar setup could be used in the concept.
Maruti’s flex-fuel roadmap
Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that its first flex-fuel vehicle (FFV) for the Indian market will debut by March 2026. While the Wagon R Flex Fuel has already been displayed at the 2023 Auto Expo and 2024 Bharat Mobility Global Expo, the Fronx Flex Fuel could also be a contender for this milestone launch.
The FFV*2 Concept thus serves as an early showcase of Suzuki’s flex-fuel technology and underscores the company’s commitment to developing low-emission, ethanol-compatible vehicles for both domestic and export markets.
