MapmyIndia Mappls has expanded the functionality of its Mappls navigation app with the introduction of multimodal public transport routing, allowing users to access metro, rail, and bus route information within the app.
The update enables commuters to view public transport routes, stations, stops, and interchange points, integrating public transport data with Mappls’ existing navigation features. The company said the move is aimed at helping users plan trips that combine multiple modes of transport.
The public transport routing feature is currently available in select cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Pune, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Indore, Patna, Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, Jaipur, Kochi, and Bhopal. The feature is live on iOS and web platforms, with an Android rollout expected shortly.
MapmyIndia said the addition of public transport information builds on Mappls’ existing services such as turn-by-turn navigation, traffic updates, safety alerts, and route optimisation. By integrating metro, rail, and bus routes, the company aims to bring private and public transport options onto a single navigation platform.
Commenting on the launch, Rakesh Verma, Co-Founder, Chairman and Managing Director of MapmyIndia Mappls, said the feature was developed based on user feedback and is intended to improve access to public transport information. He added that coverage will be expanded to more cities over time.
The company stated that making public transport information more accessible could support greater use of mass transit, contributing to reduced traffic congestion and lower emissions in urban areas. MapmyIndia also said it will continue to work with transport authorities and partners to improve data coverage and accuracy.
MapmyIndia Mappls currently has over 40 million users. The company’s government business accounts for about 20% of its gross revenue, supported by its focus on compliance with national mapping guidelines and data policies.
