Mahindra Unveils Alternate Fuel Tractors at Agrovision 2025

Mahindra & Mahindra presented a comprehensive range of alternate fuel tractors and sustainable technologies at Agrovision 2025 in Nagpur, marking a significant step in the company's commitment to cleaner farming solutions.

The event, attended by Union Cabinet Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Union Cabinet Minister for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan, featured three key innovations from the world's largest tractor manufacturer by volume.

Key Technologies on Display

The showcase centered on three distinct alternate fuel platforms. The CNG/CBG tractor, built on Mahindra's Yuvo Tech+ platform, offers operational flexibility by running on Compressed Natural Gas, Compressed Biogas, or dual fuel combining diesel and CNG. This model aims to reduce operating costs while maintaining performance standards.

Mahindra's ethanol flex fuel tractor engine represents another approach to sustainable mechanization. The technology utilizes ethanol derived from agricultural sources including sugarcane, maize, plant stubble, and crop waste, offering farmers the ability to operate on various ethanol and petrol blends.

The electric tractor, based on Mahindra's lightweight OJA platform, features zero-emission technology with fast charging capabilities. The design emphasizes instant torque delivery and consistent power output for various agricultural applications.

Development and Strategic Direction

All three technologies were developed at Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai, drawing on the company's experience in engine innovation. Veejay Nakra, President of Mahindra's Farm Equipment Business, stated that the showcases align with India's target of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2070.

The company maintains that transitioning to alternate fuels including CNG, electric, CBG, ethanol, biofuel, and isobutyl is essential for long-term sustainability in India's agricultural sector.

Market Context

Mahindra has previously introduced various alternate fuel tractor prototypes and technologies over recent years. The company continues to manufacture and display its conventional diesel-powered tractor lineup from both Mahindra and Swaraj brands alongside these newer technologies.
