Mahindra is preparing another update for the three-door Thar, with sources suggesting that the latest facelift could be launched on September 22, 2026. The current-generation Thar was introduced in October 2020 and received its first facelift in October 2025.
The upcoming model is therefore expected to become the second facelift of the second-generation Thar. Test mules indicate changes to the exterior, including new lighting and alloy wheels, while some additional features are also expected.
Thar to get Roxx-Inspired Styling
Test mules of the updated Thar have been spotted on Indian roads, revealing several styling changes inspired by the larger Thar Roxx. The facelift is expected to feature a new grille and projector LED headlights with C-shaped DRLs. A redesigned alloy wheel pattern and new tail-lights are also expected. These changes should give the three-door Thar a closer visual connection to its larger sibling while retaining its existing overall design.
More Features could be Added
The Thar received several equipment upgrades with its 2025 facelift, including a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen, Thar Roxx-inspired steering wheel, rear AC vents and a rear wiper and washer. However, it continues to miss several features available on other Mahindra models and similarly priced SUVs, such as a sunroof, powered and ventilated seats, wireless phone charging and a 360-degree camera.
Mahindra has not confirmed the equipment list for the upcoming facelift, but some of these features could be introduced to make the Thar more up to date.
Existing Powertrain Lineup Expected to Continue
The Thar is expected to retain its existing engine and gearbox combinations.
The current lineup comprises a 152hp 2.0-litre turbo-petrol, a 119hp 1.5-litre diesel and a 132hp 2.2-litre diesel. The 1.5-litre diesel is available exclusively with a six-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive. The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol can be specified with either RWD or 4WD, while the 2.2-litre diesel gets 4WD as standard.
Both the 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel can also be paired with a six-speed torque-converter automatic.
Price and Launch
The official launch date has not been announced, but sources suggest September 22 for the facelift’s debut. The current Thar is priced between Rs 10.32 lakh and Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom), and prices are expected to change with the new model.
