Mahindra & Mahindra posts strong auto sales for June 2024

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., one of India's leading automotive companies, has announced impressive sales figures for June 2024, showcasing robust growth across its automotive and farm equipment sectors.

In the automotive division, Mahindra reported total sales of 69,397 vehicles for June, marking an 11% increase compared to the same period last year. The company's utility vehicle segment was particularly strong, with domestic sales reaching 40,022 units, a significant 23% growth year-over-year.

Veejay Nakra, President of the Automotive Division at M&M Ltd., highlighted key milestones achieved during the month. "June has been momentous for us," Nakra stated. "We celebrated the production of our 200,000th XUV700, a testament to the model's popularity and our manufacturing capabilities." He also noted the 25th anniversary of the Bolero Pik-Up, which has been a market leader in the light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment.

The company's commercial vehicle sales showed mixed results. While the LCV 2T - 3.5T category saw a 12% decline, the LCV > 3.5T and MHCV segment experienced substantial growth of 77%, selling 3,274 units compared to 1,854 in June 2023.

Mahindra's Farm Equipment Sector also reported positive numbers. Domestic tractor sales reached 45,888 units in June 2024, a 6% increase from the previous year. Total tractor sales, including exports, stood at 47,319 units, up 6% from June 2023.

Hemant Sikka, President of the Farm Equipment Sector, attributed the growth to favorable agricultural conditions and government policies. "The government's announcement of increased foodgrain production, higher MSP for major Kharif crops, and the advancement of the Southwest monsoon have all contributed to positive farmer sentiment," Sikka explained.

He added that the retail momentum has picked up, supported by land preparation activities and increased Kharif crop sowing. This trend is expected to maintain strong demand for tractors in the coming months.

Export performance was particularly noteworthy in the Farm Equipment Sector, with 1,431 tractors exported in June, representing a 28% growth compared to the same month last year.

These results come against the backdrop of a challenging global economic environment, with many automotive manufacturers facing supply chain disruptions and shifting consumer preferences towards electric vehicles. Mahindra's strong performance suggests the company is successfully navigating these challenges while capitalizing on the growing demand for SUVs and agricultural equipment in India.

Industry analysts point out that Mahindra's diverse product portfolio, spanning from popular SUVs like the XUV700 to its range of tractors, has helped the company maintain growth across different market segments.
