Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh emerged as the leading state markets across passenger, commercial, and two-wheeler categories in the Q1 that ended June 2026 of FY2026-27, according to regional sales data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
Total passenger vehicle sales across the country reached 12.74 lakh units during the quarter, with the Western region leading geographic deliveries at 3.90 lakh units. Maharashtra recorded the highest passenger vehicle sales among states at 1.47 lakh units (11.6% market share), followed by Uttar Pradesh at 10.6%, Gujarat at 7.8%, Karnataka at 7.7%, and Tamil Nadu at 7.6%.
Two-Wheeler Sales: Uttar Pradesh Leads Q1 FY27 Volumes
Two-wheeler dispatches nationwide stood at 56.29 lakh units in Q1 FY27, with the Western zone accounting for 16.61 lakh units. Uttar Pradesh led individual state rankings with 8.82 lakh units sold (15.7% share), followed by Maharashtra at 10.0%, Tamil Nadu at 8.5%, and Karnataka and Bihar tied at 6.6% each.
Commercial Vehicle Sales: Maharashtra Tops State Rankings
In the commercial vehicle segment, overall industry volumes reached 2.65 lakh units, led by the Western zone with 0.91 lakh units. Maharashtra posted the highest state volumes at 0.36 lakh units (13.8% share), followed by Tamil Nadu (9.4%), Karnataka (8.3%), Gujarat (8.2%), and Uttar Pradesh (8.0%).
Three-Wheeler Sales: Uttar Pradesh Dominates Q1 FY27
Three-wheeler sales totalled 2.14 lakh units during the quarter, with the Southern region leading zonal volumes at 0.71 lakh units. Uttar Pradesh registered the highest state-level sales at 0.26 lakh units (12.0% share), followed by Gujarat (9.6%), Karnataka (9.0%), Bihar (7.3%), and Assam (7.1%).
