Made-in-India Maruti Fronx gathers 700 plus orders in Japan

Pre-bookings for the Fronx commenced in Japan earlier this month.

The Maruti Fronx has garnered more than 700 orders in Japan. The Fronx will go on sale in the Japanese market on October 16, 2024, Autocar Professional can confirm. 

The Fronx is the only made in India Suzuki product that is sold in Japan currently, which is built at the Suzuki Gujarat plant. These cars that are made for export, come with a 1.5-litre petrol engine with mild hybrid tech instead of the 1.2-litre petrol that comes in the India-spec models. The Fronx also gets a 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo petrol engine in the Indian market.

It is already being exported to many international markets in left and right hand drive layouts. Maruti Suzuki is the top exporter of made-in-India passenger vehicles and has exported over 2.8 lakh units in FY 2023-24. The brand exported a record 70,560 units in Q1 FY 2024-25, the highest ever in any Q1 of the company. 

Maruti Suzuki India, with 69,962 units and 11% growth, opened FY25 on a strong note and is 27,362 units ahead of Hyundai Motor India, in the first quarter of FY25. The company, which exports made-in-India cars, SUVs and MPVs to nearly 100 countries and sees Africa, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East are its key markets, currently exports more than 17 models with the Grand Vitara and the Fronx being the latest offerings join the export portfolio.

At present, the Maruti Suzuki models with the highest export demand are the Dzire sedan, the Swift, S-Presso and Baleno hatchbacks, and the Brezza SUV.

In Japan, the Fronx will take on the likes of the Honda HR-V and the Toyota Yaris Cross.
