Lanxess steps up sustainability push with new plasticizer: Mesamoll Goes Green
Specialty chemicals company has launched phthalate-free, high-performance plasticizer, designed for use in a wide range of polymers including PVC, PUR, and rubber.
In a bold move towards greater sustainability, specialty chemicals company LANXESS is revolutionising its plasticizer portfolio with a greener alternative for Mesamoll. This phthalate-free, high-performance plasticizer, designed for use in a wide range of polymers including PVC, PUR, and rubber, is now even more eco-friendly.
"The switch to a more sustainable raw material base in the production of Mesamoll is a testament to LANXESS’s commitment to sustainability," said Karsten Job, Head of the Polymer Additives business. "Helping our customers reduce their carbon footprint while providing them with phthalate-free, reliable, and high-performing solutions puts us at the forefront of the market."
This transition means that over 30 percent of the raw materials used in Mesamoll will soon come from fully sustainable sources, resulting in a 20 percent reduction in the product's carbon footprint (PCF). Remarkably, this transition has no adverse impact on the quality or performance of Mesamoll, as it is calculated through a mass balance approach by the suppliers of the raw materials.
Stefan Tiebach, Head of Global Marketing at PLA, articulated LANXESS's ambition, saying, "We want to actively shape the transformation of our industry. At LANXESS, we firmly believe in leading by example, which is why we decided to discontinue the distribution of our conventional Mesamoll and will exclusively distribute the more sustainable version starting on October 1, 2023. Our customers can continue to expect the same product quality, with the added benefit of an improved sustainability profile."
LANXESS is resolutely dedicated to further reducing the PCF for its plasticizer Mesamoll in the future. Even though the current reduction is already significantly lower than most alternative plasticizers on the market, LANXESS remains committed to pushing the boundaries of sustainability in its industry.
In a world where environmental concerns and sustainability are paramount, LANXESS's innovative steps towards greener solutions set a commendable example for the chemical industry. Their transformation of Mesamoll signifies not only their commitment to sustainability but also their unwavering dedication to providing customers with cutting-edge products that align with eco-conscious values. LANXESS has positioned itself as a true pioneer in the market, setting a benchmark for others to follow in the quest for a more sustainable future.
