LANXESS Inaugurates India Application Development Center in Mumbai

German specialty chemicals company LANXESS has inaugurated its India Application Development Center (IADC) in Thane, Mumbai, to enhance innovation and customer service capabilities. The facility, located at LANXESS House, will support two business units with potential for future expansion.

At the inauguration, Matthias Zachert, Chairman of the Board of Management of LANXESS AG, emphasized the importance of the Indian market. “India is a critical growth region for LANXESS, offering immense opportunities for collaboration and innovation. The new application development center represents our commitment to delivering solutions tailored to the needs of our local customers while driving organic, innovation-led growth. I am also thrilled that this important milestone for India coincides with our 20th anniversary as a company: an opportunity to celebrate twice,” he said.

The center will initially support the Lubricant Additives business, which develops high-performance additives, additive systems, synthetic base fluids, and ready-to-use lubricants, as well as the Material Protection Products business, which focuses on antimicrobial, disinfection, and preservation solutions. The facility will conduct studies on the friction and wear of lubricants, develop and test new materials, and evaluate the antimicrobial properties of paints, emulsions, and other water-based formulations.

“By establishing the IADC, we are bringing our expertise closer to our Indian customers. This center will not only support innovation but also strengthen our ability to address evolving market trends with speed and precision,” said Namitesh Roy Choudhury, Vice Chairman & Managing Director at LANXESS India.

The initiative aligns with LANXESS’ strategic shift toward specialty chemicals, focusing on less cyclical business segments and solutions for applications such as sustainable mobility and consumer protection. The company sees India’s growing industrial base and consumer market as key drivers for future advancements.

LANXESS has a strong presence in India, with representation from all 10 of its business units and a workforce of around 800 employees. The company operates production hubs in Jhagadia, Gujarat, which specializes in Rhein Chemie, Liquid Purification Technologies, and Material Protection Products, and in Nagda, Madhya Pradesh, which focuses on Flavors & Fragrances.
