JSW Group is deploying a dual-plate liquid cooling architecture designed to eliminate thermal gradients in battery cells and prevent rapid battery degradation in heavy electric commercial vehicles.

In India, commercial EV pack designs rely almost exclusively on a single cooling plate positioned at the bottom of the battery module. Under the extreme Indian ambient temperatures and sustained heavy commercial payloads, bottom-only cooling creates significant thermal lag between the top and bottom of individual cells

"In India, everybody is using the LFP battery and majority of them have a bottom cooling plate," said Sumit Mittal, Chief Executive Officer, JSW Greentech said during a media roundtable on Tuesday. "Essentially... imagine them as like... mobiles which are kept on a table and the cooling is happening at the bottom of the table, right? So, one side of the cell, you get cooling and on the other side, the cooling reaches with a lot of lag. Sometimes, there is a temperature difference which gets created... Leads to a situation where the life of the cell reduces, the performance of the battery reduces."

How JSW's Dual-Plate Cooling System Works

To eliminate this thermal bottleneck, JSW’s ground-up EV platform positions active liquid cooling plates on both the top and bottom of the LFP cells. Sandwiching the cells between two cooling surfaces reduces internal temperature differentials, stabilizing operating temperatures during heavy acceleration and uphill haulage.

JSW Improves Chassis Durability With PTED Coating

Alongside thermal management, JSW is addressing frame durability under harsh Indian road conditions and severe vehicle overloads. Conventional commercial vehicle chassis rely on spray-painted primers that leave welded joints vulnerable to oxidation. Following frame welding, JSW applies Pre-Treatment Electro-Deposition (PTED), depositing a uniform 0.4 mm electro-plated layer across the entire assembly. This seals high-energy weld areas against moisture, preventing structural rust and eliminating the frame noise typical of older fleet vehicles.
