JSW MG Motor India Unveils MG Adapt, Its First Multi-energy Vehicle Platform

JSW MG Motor India on Wednesday unveiled MG ADAPT (Advance Drive Architecture Platform Technology), which it described as India's first multi New Energy Vehicle (NEV) platform. The modular architecture is designed to support Electric Vehicles (EVs), Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs), Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) and Range Extender Electric Vehicles (REEVs) within a single framework, with the company confirming that one EV and one PHEV model will debut on the platform by FY 2026-27.

The company said the platform integrates a dedicated hybrid engine, a dedicated battery system, what it called India's first 10-in-1 intelligent electric drive unit, and what it billed as the world's first electromagnetic dedicated hybrid transmission. These components are coordinated by an intelligent energy management system that automatically switches between four drive modes — Pure Electric Drive, Series Hybrid Drive, Parallel Hybrid Drive and Engine Direct Drive — depending on driving conditions, according to the company.

In the REEV configuration, the electric motor powers the wheels at all times while a petrol engine functions purely as a generator to recharge the battery, an arrangement the company says is intended to extend driving range while preserving an electric-first driving experience.

Anurag Mehrotra, Managing Director of JSW MG Motor India, said the platform reflects the company's push to give customers flexibility in choosing an energy solution without compromising on performance or efficiency, calling it a "defining milestone" in the company's New Energy Vehicle strategy and describing it as the technological backbone for future products.

JSW MG Motor India is a joint venture between SAIC Motor and JSW Group formed in 2023. The company's manufacturing facility in Halol, Gujarat has an annual production capacity of over 100,000 vehicles.
