JSW MG Motor India Reports Strong Sales Growth for Second Consecutive Month
Company achieves 40% year-over-year growth in May 2025 with 6,304 units sold, following April's 23% increase
JSW MG Motor India recorded sales of 6,304 units in May 2025, representing a 40% year-over-year increase compared to 4,510 units sold in May 2024. This performance follows the company's April 2025 results, where it sold 5,829 units, marking a 23% year-over-year growth from 4,725 units in April 2024.
The combined two-month performance demonstrates sustained momentum for the automaker, with total sales of 12,133 units across April and May 2025, compared to 9,235 units during the same period in 2024. This represents a 31% increase in sales volume over the two-month period.
The MG Windsor electric vehicle continues to drive the company's sales performance, maintaining its position as the best-selling model in the portfolio for seven consecutive months. The Windsor EV has accumulated over 20,000 customers since its launch and has received more than 30 industry awards from various automotive publications and organizations.
JSW MG Motor India recently introduced two new variants of the Windsor in its PRO series: the Essence PRO and Exclusive PRO. These variants feature a larger 52.9 kWh battery pack, providing a certified range of 449 kilometers. The top-specification Essence PRO variant includes Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems and Vehicle-to-Vehicle and Vehicle-to-Load charging capabilities.
Electric vehicles account for a significant portion of the company's sales, with the EV portfolio representing over 85% of total monthly sales in recent months. The company's electric vehicle lineup includes the Comet EV, Windsor EV, and ZS EV, alongside internal combustion engine models such as the Astor, Hector, Hector Plus, and Gloster.
JSW MG Motor India operates as a joint venture between Mumbai-based JSW Group and Shanghai-based SAIC Motor, established in 2023. The partnership followed changes in ownership structure that resulted in Indian entities holding a 51% stake in the company, with SAIC Motor retaining a 49% stake.
The company operates a manufacturing facility in Halol, Gujarat, with an annual production capacity exceeding 100,000 vehicles. The facility, previously owned by General Motors India, employs 6,000 direct and indirect workers.
Looking ahead, JSW MG Motor India has announced plans to introduce new products every six months as part of its growth strategy. The company is preparing to launch additional models, including the Cyberster electric roadster and the M9 MPV under its premium MG Select brand identity.
The automotive sector has experienced varying performance levels across different manufacturers, with JSW MG Motor India's growth contrasting with some competitors facing declining sales in recent months. The company attributes its performance to its focus on electric vehicle technology and innovative features that appeal to Indian consumers.
JSW MG Motor India's sales figures are reported as wholesale numbers, representing vehicles sold to dealers rather than retail deliveries to end customers. The company has maintained consistent growth patterns throughout 2025, building on momentum established in the final months of 2024.
