Jindal Stainless Deploys 10 Electric Trucks for Finished Goods Transportation
The company expects its electric, LNG and CNG vehicle fleet to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 71 tonnes per month compared with diesel-based transportation.
Jindal Stainless has deployed 10 electric trucks for finished goods transportation for the first time, operating on routes connecting its Jajpur plant in Odisha with Kharagpur and Kolkata in West Bengal.
Announced on October 15, 2026, the deployment is part of the company’s phased transition towards electric and alternative-fuel vehicles across its logistics operations.
The company currently operates 80 liquefied natural gas (LNG) trucks to transport finished goods from its Jajpur and Hisar facilities to western India. It has also begun deploying compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks to transport import cargo from Dhamra port to Jajpur. In addition, Jindal Stainless operates 60 CNG buses for employee transportation at its Hisar and Jajpur facilities.
Together, the company’s electric and alternative-fuel transportation initiatives are expected to handle approximately 8,000-10,000 tonnes of cargo per month.
According to the company, a modelled monthly green dispatch volume of 8,000-9,000 tonnes and an equivalent truck travel distance of approximately 240,000 km are expected to result in carbon dioxide emission savings of around 71 tonnes per month. This represents an estimated 26% reduction compared with diesel-based transportation under regular operating conditions.
Jindal Stainless Managing Director Abhyuday Jindal said the company’s decarbonisation efforts extend beyond manufacturing operations to its logistics and supply chain. He said the company would continue adopting scalable, lower-emission transportation solutions while maintaining operational efficiency.
Jindal Stainless plans to expand the use of electric and alternative-fuel vehicles across suitable logistics routes, depending on the operational requirements of individual corridors.
The green mobility programme forms part of the company’s broader environmental initiatives, which include improving energy efficiency, increasing renewable energy use and strengthening resource circularity across its operations.
Founded in 1970, Jindal Stainless is an Indian stainless steel manufacturer with an annual melt capacity of 4.2 million tonnes. The company reported an annual turnover of ₹42,955 crore (US$4.86 billion) in FY2026.
As of March 2026, it operated 16 stainless steel manufacturing and processing facilities in India and overseas, including Spain and Indonesia, with a presence in 12 countries. Its product portfolio includes stainless steel slabs, blooms, coils, plates, sheets, precision strips, wire rods, rebars, blade steel and coin blanks.
